Small cave with 30 metres of passage in Santa Maria de Besora, located at the entrance of the S side branch, with two openings that lead to a 23x5 metre chamber and an 8 metre gallery.

Characteristics

Location

The cave is in Santa Maria de Besora. It is reached from the C17 road towards Puigcerdà, entering the village of Sant Quirze de Besora at the traffic-light junction. You must cross over the bridge over the river Ter and, at the end of the bridge, take the BV-5227 road on the left. Cross the railway line and continue for about 7 kms until reaching Santa Maria de Besora. Almost at the end of the straight that crosses the village, on the left-hand side, there is a sign indicating "a Ripoll per Llaés". Take this narrow cemented track, in good enough condition to drive with a car, but be careful because the bends are very tight and there are steep climbs and descents. After travelling 3.5 kms you reach the coll de Beví; before reaching it there is a track on the left that must be followed, leaving the Beví Gros turn-offs on the left and further on the Beví Xic one; further on the track turns towards the N and on this stretch there are signs leading to the entrance of the great fissure where the blowholes are found. It is located just at the entrance of the S side branch. Approximate coordinates.

History

The first records of visits to one of the cavities located inside this great fissure correspond to Dr. Francesc Español, carried out in 1934 for biospeleological purposes. In 1965 the Grup Espeleològic Terra i Mar (GETIM) of Sabadell explored the avenc dels Tigres (pit), the avenc del TIM (pit), the avenc Besora (pit) and the avenc del Vent (pit). Later the ERE of the CEC between 1977 and 1980 carried out a meticulous inventory of the cavities located in this fissure that would be published in the magazine Espeleòleg no. 34-35. During 1979 the Centre Espeleològic Cervelló carried out the exploration of various cavities of this fissure, with the aim that they be published in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (Borràs-Miñarro-Talavera), this led to giving a new name to some cavities. The espeleoÍndex team have considered it more appropriate to use the naming of the cavities made by the members of the ERE-CEC, since it is a more complete joint work. This same line regarding naming has been used by Jordi de Valles in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (4).
