Description
Morphology
The entrance opens inside a doline that has formed at the base of a torrent. The access presents a steep slope, and when the ground is wet it is advisable to rig a rope. The inner entrance presents itself as a large overhang and with a downward slope from its start. The dimensions of the passage gradually diminish on the descent, until it becomes impenetrable in a narrow squeeze partially flooded at the -26 m level.
Hydrology
The outer torrent has deepened the entrance doline below the access overhang to the cave; water seeps through this point in the rainy season, but it becomes impenetrable within a few metres; part of the water that seeps through this point reappears by filtration in the final squeeze.
Other details
Throughout 2025 Juli Serrano, Montse Roca (SIE-CEA), Francesc Rubinat (ERE-CEC), Nil Hosta and Tanit Sanmartin carry out a survey revision and several diggings both in R-1 and in R-2 and R-3, observing that there is no possibility of a connection between the two cavities, since the closest point of R-2 with respect to R-1 is 23 metres away in a SW direction, and, most decisively, the final point of R-2 in the direction of R-1 lies at +8 metres in height above the final level of R-1, which is why communication between the two cavities is not considered feasible.
History
On 2 March 1969 Montserrat Ubach located R-1 thanks to directions from the residents of Borredà. It was subsequently surveyed by the SIS de Terrassa and also by the ERE del CEC, with the aim of being able to connect it with the rest of la Cova de Rotgers (R-2 and R-3).
