Characteristics

Location

On the TV-7044 road going from La Riba to the Pinetell, at the height of the Molí de la Font Gran and just below the Campament Juvenil, we find a prepared parking place. On the right side of the road there is a path that goes down to the Brugent river, at this point almost always dry; we must cross it and follow the path towards the cliff. Soon we will find a crossroads: the right one goes to la Riba and to the cova Cartanyà, while the left one, which is the one we must follow, heads to the climbing routes of the Cingle dels Pins Alts and to the Penya Roja. Immediately we will find a new crossroads: the left one leads to the climbing routes of the Cingle dels Pins Alts, so we will continue to the right in the direction of the Penya Roja. Once we have arrived there, we find a small flat area where on the left of the path the mouth of the avenc dels Tres Grans opens; we will follow the path about thirty metres more and we will turn off to the right of the path about 15 metres, through an old cultivation terrace full of vegetation that will take us to the cave.

Description

Morphology

The mouth is 3 metres wide by 1.65 metres high and gives way to a gallery descending a little more than five metres in length and about 3 metres wide, with a height of about 2.5 metres. At the end of the gallery and next to the ceiling we find a short conduit 2 metres long, with an approximate diameter of 0.9 metres.

History

It is quite evident that the cavity must have been known since ancient times, since it is located on an old cultivation terrace that is currently abandoned and possibly also in the sphere of climbers, who could have used it as a shelter, since we have found old remains of some cans and cava bottles. The fact of not having found any documentation about the cavity and that the questioning of climbers who were in the area had been negative, we have opted to provisionally give it the name that refers to the cavity that is a few metres from this one.
