Characteristics

Location

The shortest access is from the lower parking area of the springs, located on the path from la Farga Vella to Ca l'Orriols. The cave is found past the second bridge of the walkways, situated about 15 metres above the upper level of the springs of the Llobregat springs; some trees conceal the entrance.

Description

Morphology

A single gallery 15 metres long, formed along a joint with strong signs of erosion.

Hydrology

It would formerly have formed part of the group of springs of the present-day springs, remaining inactive as the water level dropped.

History

Explored and surveyed by the SIEP of CE Poblet in 1980.

At the entrance part of the name “surgencia seca de la Rana” is still preserved; when the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (5) was published, Borras-Miñarro-Talavera, it was catalogued under the name cova de la Granota, since they did not consider the name painted at the entrance very appropriate, not knowing who painted this name, nor who the first explorers were.
