Characteristics

Location

To reach it, take the paved track that leads to the Montsant reservoir. Once past an electricity line tower, there is a path that descends to the river; after crossing it, follow downstream along a trail until you have crossed the ravine located about 300 metres away. Leave the confluence of the barranc de la Coma Closa just on the other side of the path that goes to the Rovellosa, by a small path that climbs among pines. Halfway up, descend to the left by some stones below the path; then follow the trail, which was opened around the year 2001, until reaching a steep climb, at the end of which you must pass over a branch of marfull and some blocks that have fallen. A few metres further on you reach a flat section of the path where there is an opening that gives onto the cavity in the form of a pit; a few metres beyond and looking towards the ravine we can see a large split block, which is where the entrance to the cova de la Coma Closa Inferior is located. From here, follow the path that climbs on the shady side up to where the ravine closes; on the sunny side we will find a split crag and beside it a corner where the entrance to the cavity is located. Description

Morphology

The descending entrance leads to a small open chamber with vegetation. On the right, a small gallery is obstructed and has small wall concretions. On the left, a gallery of considerable dimensions descends among gravel and stones until reaching a narrow squeeze. A little further on its course ends in the form of a window over the ravine.

Speleothems

In the small gallery on the right there are small wall concretions.

History

Visited in 1918 by en Joan Ferraté. Over the years, vegetation made access to the area impracticable and members of the GELL decided to reopen the path in 1999, rediscovering the cavities they had seen from the Rovellosa while carrying out prospections in that area. The cova de la Coma Closa Inferior was rediscovered in the year 2000 and the Superior in 2001.
