Description
Morphology
Entrance on a steep slope beneath a limestone bank between granite. The entrance is very uncomfortable due to the steep downward slope and because all the stones are sharp-edged and very prickly, until passing the first 3 metres. Then it quickly flattens out and there is less stone and it becomes more sandy, and from the middle of the cavity onward the floor is clayey. This first stretch, very narrow, is slightly curved in a N direction, up to 9 m, at which point there is a small oval chamber 1.5 x 1 m x 0.8 m high. Then the passage continues, now straight, descending to the end, very full of silts and mud. Approximately 1 m before the end the passage divides in two and then immediately rejoins.
In a landscape totally dominated by granitic rocks there is a limestone vein or dyke about 4 m wide that crosses a ridge about 30 m long, roughly east to west. In the middle of the ridge a small shaft about 0.6 x 1 m in surface area and one metre deep has developed, just above the cave.
Hydrology
The cave acts as a sinkhole for the torrent of the basin of Estany de l'Illa de Gerber when it flows with a moderate flow; when it flows heavily it completely floods the cave and overflows the lower bank and continues the orographic basin from here onward already on a steep slope. The water that it swallows on one side emerges on the other a few metres lower in relation to the entrance elevation.
All the walls are full of mud, which suggests that in periods of heavy flow the cave cannot completely swallow the small torrent it has captured. For this reason precautions must be taken when entering.
Progression
Visiting season: August to September. Until July the water flowing down from the small basin of Estany de l'Illa de Gerber enters the cave. And with the first abundant rains of autumn or the early snowfalls they make the visit difficult or risky. Beware of possible sudden rains that could increase the flow of the torrent that would flood the cave.
History
Unpublished cavity. Discovered on 16 July 2020 by Josep Canals, and explored on 4 August of the same year.
On 20 September 2020 the survey is made by Josep Canals and José Manuel Ligero, the latter also makes the drawing.
