Pont de Suert, El • Alta Ribagorça 39m

Small cave with a passage length of 39 metres in Viu de Llevata (el Pont de Suert), known for generations and published in 1981 by Josep de la Vega.

Characteristics

Location

Located almost at the top of a cliff in the Obaga de Viver (ICGC). After the Pont d'Estanyabero on the N-260 road (coming from Pont de Suert) and only about a hundred metres after kilometre marker 335, a track leaves on our left. A few metres along there is a fence for the cattle herd with no visible gate. You must follow it and keep turning right, going up across the fields, until you find a place to cross the barranquet dels Feners along its upper part. On the other slope, although there is a path that descends almost parallel to the cliff, we must leave it, looking for a faint trail that climbs diagonally towards the cliff, until reaching the top of a gully, where the last stretch of the crag lies above. The cavity is quite hidden and we will not see it until we are very close. The last stretch is full of vegetation and brambles, so it will be very convenient to bring a pair of pruning shears.

Description

Morphology

Large entrance visible from afar. The entrance gives access to two horizontal branches with a very low ceiling that forces you to crawl.

Progression

The two horizontal branches with a very low ceiling force you to crawl.

Other details

In the past it was used as a livestock pen, which is why a semi-collapsed stone wall remains at the entrance. The entire floor is covered with a variable thickness of sheep excrement.

History

Although known for generations by the local people, it is not until 1981 that Josep de la Vega makes it known by publishing it for the first time in “Aplec de documents arqueològics de les coves del Montsec i llur projecció a les comarques i serres properes”.
