Characteristics

Location

Leaving Berga on the BV-4242 road, on reaching kilometre 1.700 we will turn right onto the BV-4243 road towards the Rasos de Peguera; after 700 metres, we will take the track on the right towards Casanova de les Garrigues. After travelling about 900 metres, when the Baells reservoir comes into view, we will see a path on the left with some signs; at this point the vehicle must be left. From the left the path sets off climbing upwards; after about twenty minutes we will reach the Cova de Can Maurí, and the path continues until reaching the mirador de la Figuerassa.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, 22 metres wide by 7 high, leads to a single straight gallery with a triangular cross-section, which narrows progressively until it becomes impassable at the end of the route.

History

Cavity known since time immemorial; the “Patum” festival is based on historical events and legends that have la Cova as a reference.

The first published news about this cave corresponds to Mn. Bonaventura Ribera, who published on 6 November 1904 an article with two photographs of the cave in the weekly Il·lustració Catalana on pages 741-742.

Subsequently, Joan Serra i Vilaró visited them in 1921, publishing the results of this visit the following year.
