Characteristics

Location

From Margalef along the T-713 road you must cross the bridge over the Montsant river; you will find a fork and must take the road that branches off to the left, which climbs towards the ermita de Sant Salvador.

The cave is found about 2 km from the bridge, halfway to the ermita, at a turn-off to the left, where you will find a large car park. The area has been equipped as a recreational space integrated into the surroundings, with picnic tables; you will also find a water supply tank for Margalef.

Description

Morphology

The cave is equipped with a wooden walkway that leads into an 18-metre-long gallery formed by large blocks. The clastic origin of the cavity is evident. Through different places in the ceiling, between the gaps of the large blocks, the cave receives natural lighting.

On the right you will find a 14-metre gallery.

Hydrology

Along the 18-metre gallery flows the torrent that comes down the barranc de Sant Salvador; at this point it forms a very spectacular 5-metre waterfall.

The 14-metre gallery is partially flooded by a small dam that facilitates water collection.

Progression

The cave is equipped with a wooden walkway that leads into an 18-metre-long gallery.

History

Cavity known since ancient times. A few years ago the cave and its surroundings were equipped as a leisure spot.
