Characteristics

Location

Following the C-43 road from Gandesa to Pinell de Brai, shortly after passing km. 10, at a sharp left-hand bend, you must leave the road, cross the riera de la Teuleria and start climbing straight up towards a slab of bare rock where the rounded mouth of the cavity can be made out (5 to 10 minutes from the foot of the road).

Description

Morphology

An oval mouth gives access to a 3 metre drop that leads to the confluence of several small chambers full of debris. A narrow crawlway, also full of debris, leads horizontally to the outside. At the foot of the drop there is a crawlway through which one squeezes to reach a narrow gallery that leads to a new narrow section. On passing it, one arrives at a steep downward slope that leads to the main axis of the cavity. Advancing through the same place, and always in a downward direction, it becomes impassable. Back at the foot of the slope, now in an upward direction, there is a gallery in which corrosion forms predominate. This gallery ends in a small chamber filled by deposits from the outside. A narrow side passage off the previous gallery leads to a lower level that communicates through a narrow chimney with the initial sector of the cavity.

Cavity formed by the coalescence of two joint systems, one with a NE-SW orientation, and another E-W.

Speleothems

Several well-differentiated sectors can be seen; while in the lower section reconstruction forms predominate, both in the ascending gallery and in the initial sector their total absence is evident, the curious corrosion forms found there being noteworthy.

History

The only data known are those given by the members of GERP (Sant Just Desvern) who explored and surveyed it in May 1986.
