History

Discovered in 1866 by Josep Catà. As early as 1871 Pere Alsius undertook excavations there. In 1881 Edouard Harlé carried out some short excavations there. In 1907 Josep Bosoms, drilling through a stalagmitic layer that Pere Alsius had left, began his work at the site. In 1930 Dr. Josep Mª Corominas began sieving the same deposits left by the first excavators, but with a fine mesh, collecting more than 17,000 microlithic flints. The last excavations were carried out in 1943-44, directed by Drs. Pericot and Maluquer.
