Description
Morphology
At the S end of the depression, we find a descending passage that leads us to a chamber, here we can observe two openings in the ceiling, these are two pits, one of 9.30 metres and the other of 7.40 metres, these openings are located on a ledge of the upper lip of the doline. We have a ceiling 10 metres high and a width that is around 5 metres.
We will descend a pit of 12.50 metres and continue descending along a corridor that, after 11 metres of travel, turns suddenly to the left. On this first ramp we find logs thrown from the outside from old tree fellings.
We will continue descending along a gallery 0.60 metres wide by 10.50 metres high for 11 more metres and it turns to the right, and 7 metres further on we turn left again. The gallery here is 1.50 metres wide, and as for the height, although at the beginning it reaches 21 metres, a series of blocks wedged in the walls soon brings it down to 1.50 metres.
Immediately afterwards we find a log and a pit of 5.80 metres with a width of 2 metres. Having descended this we continue a few metres until we find a pit of 7.40 metres. Here we are in a gallery structured along a joint of E-W direction, with a width of 0.70 metres and a height of 5 metres. If we advance in a W direction, after about 4 metres we find a large chaos of blocks, climbing a little above them we find an opening of 2.50X0.50 metres, which gives way to a fairly unstable descending gallery, which after 17 metres of travel ends by reaching the maximum depth of the cavity.
Located again at the base of the 7.40 metre pit, we will find a gallery in a N direction, after 5 metres of travel we observe on the right a large block that conceals the access to a pit of 12 metres, the base of which places us at a depth of -64 metres. Again in the gallery where the large block is, after 5 metres it turns to the right to end 4 metres further on in a collapse of blocks. The dimensions of this gallery are 0.70 metres wide by about 3 metres high.
Other details
One characteristic of this cavity to bear in mind is the icy air current that runs through it.
History
As Emili Sabaté had told us many years ago, he and other companions from the SES – CE Puigmal had visited the cavity around the year 1958 or 1959. They always believed they had been in the legendary and nearby Forat d'Estela.
Located and explored during the campaign that the ERE of the AEC carried out in the Rasets area between the years 1964 and 1970. It is not until July 1970 that they explore it fully, but they make a survey that gives a very exaggerated depth (-104 m.).
The previous year, in May 1969, members of the SIRE – UEC Sants are informed by the wardens of the Rasos refuge that up in the Rasets there is a large bòfia. They locate it and find the name Avenc Fred painted by the ERE of the AEC. A month later they explore it and carry out the first survey that already gives the maximum depth point as the -65 metre level.
In 1973 it is surveyed again, now by the SIE – CEA, and because of placing the 0 level at the upper lip, it gives a depth of -71 metres.
When in 1980 the volume corresponding to the Berguedà of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya is made, it is decided to rename it Bòfia dels Rasets.
The GE Badalona during the prospecting campaign carried out during the second half of the 2000s, calls it bòfia R-4 de Rasets and in the survey they carry out they also fix the maximum depth level at -65 metres.
