A 22 m deep pit in Cabó (Boumort), a temporary stream sink, explored on 29 November 1964.

Characteristics

Location

To the SW of Cabó, northern slope of the Serra de Sant Joan. To the NW of the Tossal del Morro, in the very middle of a torrent that flows down towards the barranc d'Inglada.

Coordinates are only indicative of the sector where the cavity should be found. After more than 45 years, we have not been able to establish a more exact location with Oleguer Escolà, one of the first explorers of the cavity. Moreover, in the original record there is a transcription error and the same location is given as for the Bòfia del Tossal del Morro.

Description

Morphology

Small entrance about 50 centimetres in diameter. Shaft developed on an N-S joint, inclined 70º towards the W and 3.5 x 0.75 metres in section, which descends to – 13 metres. Here there is a ledge and two openings, one of them impenetrable and the other a hole 1 x 0.6 metres that leads to the ceiling of a chamber via a 4 metre drop that leads to the top of a debris cone. The floor descends at a slope of 32º from – 17 to 21.5 metres, covered by small clastic debris.

At – 21 metres begins a remnant of gallery choked by the debris cone and where the maximum depth is reached.

Speleothems

The final chamber is of clastic origin and has small coverings of wall concretions, and at the bottom, at the S end, some small helictites on the ceiling.

Hydrology

Temporary stream sink. The morphology is of typical erosion, the walls of the shaft are finely polished by the action of water, favoured by the marly composition of the limestone.

History

First explored on 29 November 1964 by members of EDES, EDECA, ERE-CEC and CE Pirenaica, during the second trip to Cabó to finish exploring the Bòfia del Tossal del Morro.
