Characteristics

Location

To get there we will start from the hostal del Vent, located on the LV-4241 road from Solsona to Coll de Jou, where we will leave the vehicle. We will continue along the path heading east, we will find a cattle fence that we will pass through a side gate, taking care to close it again. We will continue along the path, observing on our right the rasa de Torrenteller, but a little further on, at a col where the path makes a very sharp bend with a fairly steep descent, on the left-hand side we will see the great hollow of Vilamala.

The gully below us is that of the Prior, which can be descended by the wooded path that starts at this point, passing below the so-called balma Roja, and a wall about 20 metres high. Continuing along the main path we would reach the house of Capdevila, currently in ruins, but at the next col we will leave this path that descends in a N direction, and we will follow a path made by pine loggers, which passes along the ridge, following the direction east. About a hundred metres before this path ends, we will leave it, and on the right we will pass along a sloping ridge in the direction of a large overhanging rock that can be seen in the same direction, above the rasa de Torrenteller called “la Trona”. We will be able to make out a small trail that will take us to the Trona; about 10 metres before reaching it, we will be able to descend by the gully on the left, through the middle, among kermes oaks, boxwoods, holm oaks and pines that will gradually block our way.

At the end of the gully, we will find a small half-abandoned trail, which crosses the whole slope without losing much elevation. We will continue towards the west, passing below the Trona, we will cross a small torrent and further on, about 5 metres above us, we will see the great wall of more than 20 metres above the balma de la Corrua.

Description

Morphology

It is an old dwelling that still preserves its walls 1 to 2 metres high, with some stones placed in a herringbone pattern opus spicatum and others very well cut. It is oriented towards the S, under a large rock very well protected from wind and rain. Well situated for its view over the valley of Torrenteller and almost inaccessible on all four sides, thanks to its geography of cliffs that surround it. The interior of the rock shelter is no more than about 5 metres deep.

History

Known since time immemorial by the people of the area, and used as a dwelling. It was explored and surveyed on 10 April 1998 by S. Codina, M. Cardona and F. Garriga (CE Solsonès). They named it Balma de la Currua, while on the ICGC map all the place names that refer to it are named as Corrua.
