Characteristics

Location

From coll Fe (track from Begues to la Plana Novella) you must follow the path that climbs up the bottom of the Mas Grau; you must follow it to the end, where the bottom forks. Almost in front of the confluence and on the left slope is pit no. 1 of the Gravat. If we follow the stream on our right, which comes down from the Serra de la Guàrdia, after a little more than 30 metres and about 2 metres above the left slope (on the right according to the direction of travel) this small pit is found.

Description

Morphology

An opening made by digging out and quite unstable because of the blocks that still remain there allows access to a small 5-metre shaft. At its base, a 4-metre drop places us at the bottom of the shaft, where a narrow inclined passage begins that is pending digging out.

It seems to be a cavity originated by the infiltrations of the nearby stream and which have excavated two fusiform-type concavities that later came to join.

Speleothems

Except in the upper zone of the entrance shaft, in the rest of the cavity the walls are quite covered with concretions.

History

Cavity located by the SIRE de Sants in April 2003; over several days they devoted themselves to digging it out until they could gain access and explore it, naming it “Avenc Txusma”, a name that came from taking part of the name and another part of the surname of two of the explorers.

Unfortunately, due to its scant interest, this find remained only in the memory of its explorers and had no kind of dissemination.

It is not until the year 2011 that Jaume Tornamorell locates it, observing that it had been the object of a digging out in order to open the entrance. He explores and surveys it, naming it “Avenc Petit del Gravat”, due to its proximity to the already known Avencs del Gravat, providing the record so that it could be published in EspeleoÍndex.

Following the publication in EspeleoÍndex, members of the SIRE de Sants resume the digging out at the bottom of the cavity, placing it at -10 metres deep, but with the surprise of having found inside a stone axe belonging to the Neolithic, which was deposited in the archaeological museum of Gavà; later they publish a note about the cavity in the magazine Excursionisme.
