Location

From Mont-ral we will head E; once past the esplanade at the exit of the village, we find a crossroads. We will leave the path that climbs to La Foradada and the Pla de l'Avenc, and continue along the path heading NW. After 75 metres, a path branches off to the left which we follow in the direction of the Teix mil·lenari; this path is occasionally marked with cairns. We will come to a first fork where we continue to the right; a little further on we find a small trail on the left marked with cairns, which must be followed, as this path passes right by the base of the cliff of the Serrat de l'Avenc. We will reach a point where we must climb a steep slope formed by an accumulation of blocks; from this point we will see on the right, about twenty metres away, an enormous block, and in a small channel at the base of this block is the entrance 1 of the cavity.

Description

Morphology

Entrance 1, located further E, gives access to a small shaft (0.6X0.6 metres) and 15 metres deep that leads to the largest chamber of the cavity. Entrance 2 is located 23 metres W of entrance 1. Heading W, one reaches a sort of bedding plane with a section of 0.6X3.8 metres. Back in the chamber and heading N, one reaches some galleries structured along bedding planes. The vertical drop is -34.8 metres and the length is 192.92 metres.

Progression

Entrance 2 is reached via a steep ramp that ends in a 6-metre drop; it is advisable to rig a rope along the whole ramp. At the lowest part of the bedding plane there is a 9-metre drop, where we find a network of galleries and possible continuations, conditioned by the instability of the block chaos that makes exploration very dangerous.

History

Located on 25 December 1979 by the CIE (Centre d'investigacions Espeleològiques), and explored the following day by the same group. This cavity is located in a chaotic block area known as the Avencs de Feliu.
