A 24 m deep pit in the Fondo de Vallbona, in Sitges, discovered and explored by the SES of the Club Esquí Puigmal around 1964.

Characteristics

Location

In the very middle of the Fondo de Vallbona, specifically some 25 metres above the right slope of the torrent that descends from the puig d'Olla, it passes below the Penya del Castellar (or Castellot) and collects the waters of the different ravines that descend in a N-S direction. A few metres before its confluence with the main ravine, the right slope must be climbed.

Access to the area is difficult because of the exuberant vegetation that greatly hinders passage. If we take the avenc dels Bessons as a reference, one must descend the streambed (very difficult along the channel) to the next confluence of ravines. At this point there is (or was) a plaque that read: El Jardí, and from here enter a few metres into the ravine that descends from the NE and climb the slope.

Perhaps the most comfortable access is from the Rat-Penat urbanisation, climbing the Fondo de Vallbona, first along the channel and then taking advantage of a path that rises along the left hydrographic slope, and once past the confluence of the Fondo de les Guineus, this path descends again to the channel; a few metres further on one reaches the point called El Jardí.

It should be said that in the Catàleg de Garraf (Borràs, 1974) the pit is wrongly located at the confluence of streams further down.

Description

Morphology

From the entrance one penetrates laterally into a pit of a little more than 9 metres that widens at the midpoint of its course until reaching 2 metres in diameter. Its base forms a short slope that links with the vault of another pit, 10.5 metres deep and of lesser width than the entrance one.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the SES of the Club Esquí Puigmal (Barcelona) around the year 1964.
