Characteristics

Location

By the road that climbs from Begues to the “Punt Sud” power plant located on the Pla de Basses Roses, once we are level with the Pla del Cirerer a path comes out on the right that goes towards the Pla d'Ardenya; at the point where the path passes underneath and right next to a power pylon, already on the Pla de Sot d'Óssos, we must take a trail on the left that in a few metres will lead us to a large doline in the very middle of which is the avenc Gran de les Alzines; at the beginning of the doline we find the avenc Petit de les Alzines on the right of the trail; from there we follow a small path in a NE direction and after 15 metres we will find the collapse where the avenc dels Arqueòlegs is located.

Description

Morphology

In a small depression located on one side of the avenc Gran de les Alzines, we find the small entrance of 0'87X0'47 metres. A 3'50-metre shaft leads us to a small sloping chamber, where to reach the next shaft of -35 metres it is necessary to get through a narrow squeeze of 0'50X0'55 metres. The shaft has an average diameter that does not reach one metre. At -15 and -30 metres, we find two niches with no continuation. At the base of the shaft it widens a little and on one side a narrow descending fissure leads us to a small chamber where we find the point of maximum depth at -46 metres.

Progression

To reach the next shaft of -35 metres it is necessary to get through a narrow squeeze of 0'50X0'55 metres, where a light air current blows. The descent presents considerable difficulty, especially with the sharp protrusions of the walls. At the base of the shaft, a narrow descending fissure leads us to a small chamber where we find the point of maximum depth at -46 metres, where the only possibility of continuation is a small blowing squeeze pending digging.

History

Cavity opened as a result of the digging carried out by Montserrat Sanz and Joan Daura, who named it avenc dels Arqueòlegs, we suppose between the years 2004-2005. The first exploration was carried out by Joan himself solo. On 16 March 2006 Brauli Torres and Enric Porcel (GEB) rig the cavity and carry out the survey.
