Location

Going up from el Mascar towards the Mola de Catí, shortly after passing the last hairpin bend and before tackling the final sweeping curve that the track makes before reaching the top of the Mola, about 25 metres to the right of the track is the entrance of the pit.

Description

Morphology

Through a very narrow entrance one enters a shaft that is also narrow and gradually widens. At its base (level -9) it is necessary to move sideways along the joint to reach the widest point and continue the descent. About 7 metres further down the fissure continues in depth, but it is more comfortable to enter through a window (artificially widened) in the partition separating it from the main joint and continue descending to 30 metres depth, where the narrowness of the fissure makes progress practically impossible. It is necessary to continue moving sideways along the joint towards the side opposite the descent, where the width is slightly more comfortable and where one can descend about 4 metres more until it becomes completely impracticable.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa in the month of June 1983. It was necessary to remove a block that was blocking the entrance, which was achieved by building a tripod made of logs and pulling with a “Land Rover”. During the following month of August the exploration and survey were completed.
