Small pit in the Serra de Gatells, Collbató, with a narrow entrance, a stepped shaft and narrow passages in the process of being cleared.

Characteristics

Location

Reaching Collbató from the A-2 motorway we find a roundabout, we must follow the B-112 road and before reaching kilometre 1 we will turn off onto a track on the right that goes to the lime kilns of Can Rogent. This track is closed by a barrier, so we must continue on foot along the track for about 400 metres until the climb ends and the flat area begins; as a reference, on the right there is a small pool for watering wild fauna. At this point we will leave the track on the left and follow a path in the opposite direction to the one we came from that goes along the ridge, we will keep finding some wooden posts driven into the ground and points on the rocks all painted red. After about a hundred metres we will reach the pit, which is normally covered by two pieces of grille held down with stones.

Description

Morphology

A narrow entrance gives access to a stepped shaft 2.30 metres deep that places us in a passage with an average width of one metre and a height between 0.80 and 2.10 metres, this continues in an E direction for some 9 metres, at this point the section narrows to a passage of 0.33x0.40 metres until it becomes impenetrable.

Back at the base of the entrance shaft, on the opposite side we find a drop of -1.20 metres, this continues as a narrow passage in a SE direction that soon turns left where we find a height difference of 2.20 metres on a steep slope that takes us to a small chamber where the passage continues, now very narrow (it has not been possible to get through).

Progression

As far as can be seen, the cavity is still in the process of being cleared by its discoverers.

History

It seems that this cavity was located and cleared in 2019 by members of the Collbató fire brigade, at least some of the remains found inside the cavity would confirm this, these clearing works seem to have been halted for some time.
