An 85-metre-deep pit in Margalef, with two entrances separated by 12 metres.

Characteristics

Location

From the picnic area of the Margalef reservoir, you must go to the bridge that crosses the reservoir, just after the outlet of the barranc de la Taverna, and follow the path parallel to the reservoir for about 400 m, where we will find on our right a turn-off that climbs directly towards the l'Auferí area. It should be said that the first 300 m of the climb are very steep and with little visibility due to the vegetation, although afterwards it is somewhat flatter, while in front we can make out a hill where almost at its summit most of the cavities are found.

To find the Avenc del Púdol you must climb up to a ridge where we will already see on the other slope the upper part of one of the barrancs de la Taverna. Then you must go down diagonally to our left and among the vegetation we will find the main entrance.

Description

Morphology

The two entrances separated by 12 metres give way, after a vertical drop of 12 metres, to some inclined shafts that lead onto the lower gallery of the cavity, about 5 metres wide.

Progression

The lower gallery connects at one end with a descending passage that reaches a long and narrow joint that maintains the same direction; this is crossed by many perpendicular joints and after some small vertical drops it reaches a depth of -85 metres.

History

Explored on 19 and 20 March 1966 by Sas, Pagés, Amat and Auroux of the SAS of the CGB. They returned on 12 and 19 February 1967 to carry out the survey.

It was initially cited as avenc del Pòdol, as well as cited as Pòdul; it seems that the correct name is Púdol.
