Description
Morphology
The entrance is 7 metres wide, enters on a slope and becomes progressively narrower until reaching the start of the first shaft, where the width does not reach one metre. The vertical fissure descends 13.4 metres until reaching a steep slope that leads to the -23.4 metre level. Towards the W a small ramp descends until it becomes impenetrable; towards the E a ramp of stones and a small 3-metre shaft descend to the Pas del Cinc at -37 metres, where through a narrow passage a few metres can be climbed up to reach a new and narrow shaft that descends -12.2 metres until reaching a ledge at -43.6 metres. On the W side, forcing a narrow passage, one can reach a small chamber, although it cannot be descended; it is confirmed that it connects with the lower chamber or possibly with the Pas del cinc. On the E side, a series of small shafts and stone ramps place us at the start of the third shaft at -55 metres. At the mouth of the third shaft, towards the E we find a small shaft of -4 metres that ends obstructed. Towards the W and by means of a crawl we enter the third shaft, this is aerial of -14.4 metres; two metres from its start we find two suspended blocks that divide it. Once at the base of the shaft, climbing up some blocks we reach the last vertical, very narrow and of -7 metres, which places us at the lowest point of the cavity, at -76.6 metres depth.
History
The first news we have of this cavity is that given by Josep Iglésies in 1927, where he speaks of a first exploration made shortly before by him accompanied by members of the Centre de Lectura de Reus, where they calculate having reached 40 metres depth, where the narrowness blocked their way. At that time they called it Avenc del Pi Redon.
We also have news of an exploration, among others, made in 1957 by members of the Reus Deportiu, but it is not until 1965 that members of the EPE (Equip de Prospeccions Espeleològiques de l'Agrupació Excursionista de Reus) managed to clear the so-called Pas dels Cinc (they called it Sifó Sec, a dry sump), reaching the maximum depth that at that time they erroneously calculated as 92 metres and estimated by sounding that the fissure could reach 104 metres depth.
In May 1972 members of the ERE – CEC make a complete record and a more precise survey.
