Characteristics

Location

From Cova Cambra a well-marked path leaves, heading SW, running along the whole southern edge of the Mola de Catí. This path is fairly flat and must be followed for a little more than 1000 metres; to its right and some 50 metres further on, in the middle of the wood, lies the pit.

Description

Morphology

At the bottom of a broad doline opens the mouth of the cavity, about 80 centimetres in diameter, which gives access to a shaft 22 metres deep. At its bottom is a chamber 10 x 4 metres. On the NW side of the chamber and a little higher up, to the left of the shaft, through a window that gives onto a 5-metre drop one reaches a chamber. The last shaft of the cavity is full of blocks and at its bottom the point of maximum depth is reached (elevation – 31).

Progression

On the NW side of the chamber is the mouth of a shaft that leads to the lower galleries. Through a small descending gallery one reaches the base of the aforementioned shaft. From this point one can follow a gallery 14 metres long until finding a small drop with a dome on its left and with no possible continuation; then, by means of a steep ramp, access is gained to the last shaft of the cavity.

History

This cavity was discovered and explored by members of the ERE – CEC during the trip of 30-4 and 1-5-1970. (Information provided by Pere Cantons).

Like the rest of the cavities discovered and explored by the ERE at that time, it remained unpublished until a few years later, during the campaigns of the SIE – CEA, it was located and surveyed again.
