Characteristics

Location

S of Rojalons (Montblanc). From Montblanc take the TV-7042 road towards Rojals. A few kilometres before, there is the hamlet of Rojalons and at its height the road makes a marked hairpin bend; a few metres before entering it, a track leaves to the left heading towards the mas d'en Just. Before arriving, at the point where the track crosses the barranc de la Variella, a path (PR to Rojals) leaves to the right and climbs the right-hand slope of this ravine; follow it for about 200 metres until you find a small path on the left that climbs the slope up to the top of the cliff visible from below. Once at the top, follow towards the west until very soon you reach the start of the pothole (entrance no. 1) and a little higher up, hidden by trees, the other opening (entrance no. 2). Description

Morphology

A typical collapse pothole with a general NE-SW orientation, blocked by boulders in some sectors. It is 48 m deep and about 115 m long.

Progression

Entering through the so-called no. 1, you must descend the entrance pitch, 16 metres deep, and continue among boulders until the pothole is cut by a small 6-metre pitch which, once passed, leads down a steep slope to a depth of 26 metres. Here it seems to be closed, but among the boulders you can continue descending, by means of a 5-metre drop and then another 16-metre pitch, quite narrow and with a strong draught. The fissure continues, but its narrowness makes progress impossible.

Back at the base of the 5-metre drop, above it you can see a kind of, let's say, window, which connects with the central zone of the descending ramp from entrance no. 2. From this junction point the ramp gains inclination until reaching a small 4-metre pitch which, once descended, leads to a narrow fissure up to another small pitch, also 4 metres, where the fissure continues in depth, but the narrowness makes passage impossible.
