Small 26 m deep pit in Garraf (Gavà), located about 200 metres NE of avenc de la Llosa, discovered and first explored on 26 January 1949.

Characteristics

Location

It is located about 200 metres NE of avenc de la Llosa. From this pit the ravine can be followed upstream without losing height, but through a thick scrub of kermes oak. On reaching the height of a small stone hut situated above us, if we draw a perpendicular line between it and the bottom of the ravine, the pit is found about 25 metres above the thalweg of the right slope of the head of the Sot de l'Infern. Years ago, the point where the pit opens was a small clearing right in the middle of the kermes oaks.

For more than 50 years, all the Alpina maps and catalogues wrongly placed it on the left slope of the gully, more or less just below the itinerary to go to avenc de la Sivinota, when in reality it is on the opposite slope.

Description

Morphology

Through a small entrance one enters a single shaft 26 metres deep, bell-shaped and with a ledge at 17 metres from its start. Below it, the rest of the shaft has a greater volume.

Speleothems

A fairly important lithogenic process has developed.

History

The discovery and first exploration was carried out by J.Montoriol and F.Vicens, of the GES-CMB, on 26 January 1949.

We have always thought that there was an error on the part of the first explorers when transcribing the record sheet of this cavity and that of Avenc de la Llosa and they swapped the name of one for the other. Possibly, the Marianet was the shepherd who indicated to them the one catalogued as Avenc de la Llosa and yet the one catalogued with his name has a smooth rock, like a slab, at its entrance.
