Characteristics

Location

On the NE slope of the summit of the Rascler. From the Campgràs one must go up by the road to the radioelectric installations. Once past the barrier and the control hut, one must follow the road on the left. Some 130 metres further on, to the right, the sunken doline where the avenc del Mall is found can be seen.

Some 25 metres to the S. of the avenc del Mall, in the upper part of the doline, the Avenc del Nus (- 17 m.) should be found, but all indications suggest that it disappeared with the construction of the road.

Description

Morphology

Just past the mouth (now widened), one enters a shaft 43 metres deep which presents two ledges along its course (levels –29 and –35). At 3.5 metres from the start and through a window one enters a blind lateral shaft that descends 7 metres.

At the bottom of the entrance shaft and by means of a narrow passage, one enters a shaft of 4.20 metres, we descend a ramp and go down a new shaft of 4.70 metres; from this point we observe a dome situated at +13 metres, which is a shaft parallel to the one we have just descended, with small windows that connect them. We continue along a ramp until reaching a shaft of 10.80 metres which will place us at -72 metres, the point of maximum depth of the cavity.

Cavity originated by the union of different concavities generated by the infiltrations of different points of the doline.

History

Discovered by members of the GES-CMB and of the ERE-CEC in January 1957, while clearing a point of the doline where it is found. They explore the entrance shaft down to level –52 (old surveys).

On the night of 17 March of the same year 1957, members of the Centre Gimnàstic Barcelonès are able to force two consecutive narrows and reach the bottom of the cavity.

Around the year 2001, we do not know who, they proceeded to make a clearing, as spectacular as it was unnecessary, of the entrance mouth.

On 27 October 2013, the GE Badalona carries out a new survey that lowers by 9 metres the level known until that moment of -81 metres, which appeared in the surveys of the CGB (1957) and of the GES-CMB (1973); in this latter survey they also lower by 10 metres the depth of the lateral shaft near the entrance of the cavity.
