Location

From the N side of the crossroads found at Coll de Jou, a track heads W, and after 120 metres makes a 180º turn to the right. From this bend, we head across the meadows passing in front of a small hut in a SW direction for 130 metres, where we find the entrance of the cova dels Contrabandistes among box trees and scrub. The entrance of the avenc del Coll de Jouet is found on the S side of a small cliff.

Description

Morphology

The entrance of the avenc del Coll de Jouet opens two metres above the base of the S face of the cliff; this leads to a 4-metre pit, continuing down a steep slope with a somewhat narrow passage, at the end of which there is a small ladder by which we reach a chamber.

Progression

In this chamber there was formerly a ladder that allowed one to climb up to the cova dels Contrabandistes; nowadays, to make the through trip of the cavity, a rope must first be rigged at the end of the artificial passage of the cova dels Contrabandistes.

History

Known in the area since time immemorial and used as a hiding place, it was fitted out for living in. It seems it was used as a house by the prisoners who were forced to work on the Coll de Jou to Cambrils road after the civil war.

J. Subils explored and surveyed it between 4 and 6 January 1964; curiously he makes no reference to the final chamber or to the access via the cave, popularly known as dels Contrabandistes, and this part of the cavity does not appear on Subils's survey either.

In 1980 members of the Centre Excursionista Solsonès explored and surveyed it in its entirety.
