Characteristics

Location

From km 21.34 of the T-704 road a short road (T-7093) branches off and ends at the old deserted village of la Mussara. Here we will leave the car and continue along the Campanilles path, which is well signposted. At first it climbs gently and passes the old refuge (in ruins) and begins to descend along the cingle de les Airasses. After about 350 metres we will cross a track and continue descending 250 metres more until we find the cavity right next to the path, on the left-hand side and at the cingle de Campanilles. The lower entrance is located to the right of the path, but the vegetation makes it quite difficult to find.

Description

Morphology

The small entrance of the cavity is partially occupied by a block, leaving a passage of 0.3 x 0.5 metres that leads to a 6-metre pit. Once at the base of the pit, in a NE direction we find a ramp of blocks that reaches the lowest point of the cavity, which ends here in some narrow passages. In the opposite direction we find a horizontal crawlway that after a few metres climbs up until we can see the light from outside. A descent over a large block leads us to the exit.

Progression

Through the small entrance comes a more than appreciable air current. Once at the base of the pit, in a NE direction we find a ramp of blocks that reaches the lowest point of the cavity, which ends here in some narrow passages through which an air current comes out. In the opposite direction we find a horizontal crawlway that after a few metres climbs up until we can see the light from outside. A descent over a large block leads us to the exit.

History

Cavity mentioned, without giving any data, by Joan Ferraté in Espeleologia de les comarques tarragonines (1918).

It had certainly been explored previously although we do not know by whom, since when it was visited and surveyed by members of GE Badalona, GIE Montblanc and EC de Gràcia on 21 February 2015 they already found three spits and a couple of bolts.
