Avenc de Roca Mur

Petit avenc d'11 m. de fondària a Sant Llorenç del Munt

Sant Llorenç Savall • Vallès Occidental18m11m

Small 11 m deep pit in Sant Llorenç del Munt, an active sinkhole on an S5E-N5O joint, explored on 3 May 1981.

Characteristics

Location

From the road to Sant Llorenç Savall (B-124), shortly after km 17 and just before crossing the pont de la Roca, the track that runs through the Vall Horta leaves to the left. Shortly before reaching the Marquet de la Roca (Marquet de les Roques, according to the ICC), an old forest track (closed) leaves to the left, which we must follow until shortly afterwards another track is found on the right, along which we must continue. We will follow it to a large double bend and after about 200 metres more, on the left, above the track, we will find the Cova-avenc del Marquet de la Roca. Continuing about 140 metres further along the track and right beside it, on the left, is the avenc de Roca Mur, next to the torrent that comes down from the Coll Gavatx.

Description

Morphology

Its 1 x 0.5 metre entrance allows us to descend a narrow 4 metre pit that places us on a ledge; this is preceded by another pit in the form of a very steep ramp of 4 metres that can be descended without a rope. Once at the foot of the second pit, we will observe that on one side there is a joint parallel to the pit we have just descended and which is formed by the two joints together. The floor of the second pit, separated by a not very stable 'mother rock', at the S end of the floor of the second pit and by means of a crouching passage we can descend through a long and narrow joint, at the bottom of which a small, very narrow pit can be seen that brings the cavity to an end at the level of – 11. Set on an S5E-N5O joint, showing clear corrosive forms in its first two pits.

Hydrology

At present it acts as a sinkhole that collects the waters that come down from above Roca Mur following the torrent that crosses the track where the pit is located.

History

Known for some time by Gabriel Dalmau of the Mas de les Oliveres. It is not, however, until 3 May 1981 that the cousins Emili and David Dalmau accompany a group made up of members of the SIS – CET and the GES – CMT to this pit, unknown until then. A block almost blocked the entrance, so it was removed to make access to this narrow pit more comfortable.
