Description

Morphology

A 4-metre shaft with blocks wedged between its walls reaches at its lower part a slightly descending gallery ending in an intersection with a very narrow joint. At the foot of the small entrance shaft there is a new shaft, this one of 4.4 metres, which leads into a gallery that, towards the N becomes impenetrable after a few metres and in the opposite direction communicates with the lower mouth of the cavity. Shortly after the entrance through this mouth there is a small shaft of just over 3 metres that links with a gallery on a descending ramp where, after a narrow passage and a small step, it continues a few metres more until it becomes impenetrable and where the maximum depth is reached.

History

The discovery and first exploration of this pit took place in 1963 by members of the GIE of the Club Excursionista de Gràcia (Barcelona). During this exploration a new species of beetle was discovered. In the following years the cavity was only of interest to biospeleologists and remained practically unpublished. In 1981 it was rediscovered by members of the GE Badalona who, having no information about it, renamed it Avenc Perset, although they soon realised the error. In 2007, again people from the GE Badalona and the Grup Excursionista Malgratenc visited the pit and carried out a clearance that gave access to a new mouth and some small lower galleries. During the clearance, bone remains were found which, once studied by specialists, they estimated correspond to Homo sapiens and Cervus elaphus.
