Avenc de les Aranyes Negres

Avenc de les Aranyes Negres

Petit avenc d'11 m. de fondària al Garraf (Begues)

Begues • Baix Llobregat18m11m

Small 11 m deep pit in the Garraf (Begues), discovered and explored by members of the GERS of AE Muntanya (Barcelona) around 1978 or 1979.

Characteristics

Location

Shortly before km. 16 of the road from Begues to Olesa de Bonesvalls (a few metres before the quarry and the CI Aries cement and lime factory), a track (closed) branches off; shortly after it crosses the Begues stream and climbs up the bottom of l'Espinadar. Further on we find on the left the remains of the corrals of els Casals and a little further on, on the right, the ruins of a huge farmhouse (els Casals). The path continues ahead, tending to the right, until it becomes a footpath (GR-92.3) that climbs the hydrographic slope up to a col (some call it the coll de la Ferla). Before it starts descending towards the Avenc de la Ferla, the footpath goes off to the right and about 50 metres further on turns right; this is where it must be left and one continues straight on over the limestone pavement, losing a little height for about 100 metres, to find within a space of a few metres the entrances of the cavities (Farigola II; Aranyes Negres and “Grieta”).

Description

Morphology

Once past its narrow entrance (0.4 x 0.7 m.) one enters a pit 7 metres deep along the joint. At its base, on a ramp and in a SW direction, one reaches a very narrow passage through which one accesses a small 2 metre pit where the deepest point is reached. Back at the base of the pit and in a NE direction, the fissure descends a little and then takes on an ascending direction and soon becomes impenetrable.

History

Discovered and explored for the first time by members of the GERS of AE Muntanya (Barcelona) around 1978 or 1979.
