Location

From the Coll d'Estenalles you must go up to the pool of the casa de la Mata and head for the Avenc de Sant Jaume. From here we will follow for about 200 metres a very faint path that runs along the ridge until reaching a clearing of holm oaks. The path goes down along the right side of the ridge, but you must continue along the ridge, passing some abandoned terraces, and we will come to another half-lost path until we find the cairn that marks the pit, which is to the right of the path.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, 1.5 by 1 metre, allows descending a small narrow and inclined shaft with a drop of 7 metres. At its bottom one reaches a narrow gallery 6 metres long. At the S end, a narrow passage that was cleared gives access to a narrow gallery 3 metres long and with the presence of some large wedged blocks.

History

At first it was a hollow full of leaf litter known to Mr. Rosendo Boixader, former tenant farmer of the Mata. His son, Joan Boixader and Jaume Claverí (GES-CMT), during four days in the summer of 1983 were removing leaves, earth and stones and after 2 metres of clearing the pit appeared, which had possibly been intentionally plugged. In the course of some explorations a narrow passage was also cleared through which only a hand could pass and which leads to the small chamber full of blocks.
