Characteristics

Location

The pit is located in the la Foradada area (Montsià). From Sant Carles de la Ràpita, take the track that goes up the barranc de Solito (path to Mata-redona) until reaching the Cocó del Jordi, where we can leave the car. At the second bend, above the Cocó, we leave the main path and climb directly up the steep path that leads to the Pla de "la Rueda", old cultivation terraces of the Mas de Mata-redona. Once at the crossroads, we descend to the right in the direction of the Font de Burgar. A few metres from the bed of the barranc de la Manigueta, and before reaching a large rock with the PR mark, we leave the path and climb up to the left, among the kermes oak, to gain the upper part of the mola del Burgar, where among a small wood of holm oaks is the mouth of the pit.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, with a descending ramp, leads us to a chamber of white formations; at its bottom a tube-shaped crawlway leads us to a small drop. If we go horizontally and flat out we reach a chamber with somewhat unstable blocks; if on the other hand we go down, we end up in a small chamber. Continuing to the end we will find a wider place where we can descend the first 10 metre pit, and we reach the largest chamber of the pit. We descend a few metres by downclimbing and reach the second 8 m pit and the end of the cavity.

History

Located some years ago by Pep Badia (la Ràpita), who informed members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa who made a first reconnaissance. During 2014, members of Club d'espeleologia Dinàmic (la Ràpita) carried out some digs and accessed the lower pits of the cavity.
