Description
Morphology
The mouth is a narrow vertical diaclase 8 metres long, a small horizontal chamber and a crawlway place us through another small chamber with formations at the head of the -117 metre pit. The pit has three sections well defined in relation to their dimensions. The first, of comfortable proportions, opens out until reaching the first ledge (-35 metres). The second section narrows considerably until reaching the level of -65 metres. The third section begins before the second ledge (-77 metres) where the pit widens again and keeps increasing as we descend in the direction of the level of -128 metres. In the area of the third section, at -95 metres, a balcony at our back gives access to the ascending route of La Gran Diàclasi and at the same time to new pits that converge towards -128 metres. Continuing down we reach the third ledge (-111 metres), and from this to the end of the pit at the level of -128 metres.
Speleothems
A small chamber with formations is found at the head of the -117 metre pit. A new crawlway introduces us into a chamber with formations with water input.
Hydrology
The water input in the second section of the pit is significant, which due to its narrowness makes a light shower almost inevitable. At the base of l'Embut, we access on one side the sala del Llac, and on the other side through a crawlway the active zone. In the latter, just after the first narrow section, an inclined laminator indicates the point of maximum depth and collector of the zone. To access the stream, we will ascend to the conduit that introduces us into the active course. This has two inputs, the main one that becomes impenetrable in its final part, and a tributary that ends in a sump. The water is lost through a narrow long and difficult conduit that allows the sound connection with the galeria de l'Embut.
Progression
From here the progression becomes almost horizontal, taking a NE direction. A couple of narrow steps without difficulty lead us to a wide gallery with a low ceiling in some steps. A new crawlway introduces us into a chamber with formations with water input; in the upper left end of this chamber is the Pas del Negre, by means of which we access another chamber with large blocks. In the ceiling of this chamber we find l'Escalada dels tornillos auto recuperables, this ends in a narrow step for the moment impassable from where a chamber of a certain volume is sensed. Continuing along the gallery, without further difficulties we reach the galeria de l'Embut. At this point the cavity bifurcates; if we continue straight (delicate step and pit) the gallery runs for about 80 metres without further continuation. At the beginning and after the delicate step, a crawlway on the left introduces us into the Via de la sala de les Banderes. Descending along the galeria de l'Embut, we will pass beside a fixed rope that will allow us to visit the Via de les Diàclasis and we will reach the window that will allow us to descend to l'Embut (handrails on the right, block anchor and spit). From the galeria de l'Embut, ascending along the fixed rope, we access the Via de les Diàclasis. A horizontal conduit with mud quickly becomes vertical, ascending to a chamber; in this one, backwards in a SW direction we descend to the Sala del Llac by a P.12 and a P.11; while upwards by means of a delicate step Pas de l'Estrep, a narrow meander leads to the first diaclase. Continuing in a NE direction, we will descend a P.6 and ascend a P.11, to reach another diaclase with water input; it is necessary to ascend between blocks (R.7) to access by its upper part the pou Capelina. We will descend two more pits (P.7 and P.8) to reach a chamber situated below the previous diaclase.
History
A prospection carried out in June 1994 by members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa resulted in the location of four new mouths at the Mola de Catí, but it is not until the end of the year that the exploration begins. In the smallest of the four mouths, after an easy clearing, access was achieved through a narrow blowing diaclase and after various contortions to what seemed a large pit, more than 100 metres. A new exploration where the mouth is widened allows confirming that it is a pit of -117 metres. The explorations follow one another during 1995 resulting in the exploration of numerous galleries that give it a length of 1215 metres. On 25 November 2007 a team from the speleology and canyoning section of the UEC de Tortosa carry out a climb on the ceiling of the chamber following the Pas del Negre ascending some tens of metres, managing to reach a narrow step that would need to be cleared and from which a chamber of a certain volume can be seen. Initially the cavity was equipped with Starfix anchors, but according to latest information these have been changed for parabolts with plate with ring.
