Characteristics

Location

Leaving Begues along the track to Plana Novella, once past the turning for the cemetery, you come to the (closed) track that leads to the Clota. Following it until shortly before reaching the ruins of this old house, on the right there is a turning that runs level in a S direction. A few metres after passing under a power line, a path comes off to the left which must be followed for a few metres until reaching the height of the electricity pylon. At this point you must climb back up towards the SW to an old cultivated field, finding the pit at the foot of the stone wall that borders it.

Description

Morphology

Through a small entrance (0.56×0.75 m) a 10.7 metre deep shaft is descended which deposits you at one side of an interesting chamber some 6 metres high, 18 metres long and about 5.5 metres wide. At its ends the two continuing routes of the cavity develop.

If we go towards the NW, we find an 8 metre shaft. Halfway up, members of the GEB made a dig that ends at two metres.

After two drops, one of 3 m and another of 3.4 m, they reach indistinctly a ramp that pours us into vertical crawls which, after descending 5.2 metres, bring us to a small gallery that ends immediately.

Here the maximum depth of the cavity is reached (-30 m). This last stretch of crawls was completely unexplored, as it had been dug open by members of the EGAN.

If we return to the chamber, and head towards the SW, we find the other route, also dug open by the EGAN; here, after a few metres, we find a highly selective horizontal crawl, one metre wide by 0.28 metres high; once past it, we will descend through narrow steps and some intermediate small chamber, until another small chamber where we find two small shafts, one ends at 26.5 metres and the other remains blocked by a block and gave a depth of -28 m. Although the continuation is evident, the arduous work of digging would have to be continued.

History

Discovered and explored around 1966 by the Grup Espeleològic Coves i Avencs de l'AE Roca (predecessor of the current Espeleo Grup UME de Gavà).

Recently, members of the EGAN (Igualada) dug open some passages at the two lower ends of the pit.

In May 2021 a clean-up day of the cavity was held, convened by the Vocalia d'Ecologia de la Federació Catalana d'Espeleologia, in which members of the GE Badalona, SIRE-UEC Sants, EGAN Igualada and CE Castellar del Vallès took part and, in two days, removed a large quantity of rubbish from the pit and proceeded to carry out a new survey of the cavity including the new passages.
