Characteristics

Location

At km. 13.5 of the road from Terrassa to Mura, on a left-hand bend, there is a flat area set up as a car park where the car is left. Here a path begins that descends towards the riera de les Arenes, in front of the Canal de les Teixoneres. One must follow the path that goes into this channel for about 250 metres and, well before the path leaves the left flank of the channel to climb towards the Esquena d'Ase, one must change flank and a few metres above the streambed is the pit.

Description

Morphology

An almost circular mouth of just over 1.5 metres in diameter that gives entry to a shaft of 8 metres of vertical drop. The base is a short ramp that connects through the upper part of a new shaft that descends 10 metres more. At its bottom, after climbing a short step, one enters a last step of 2 metres of drop where the bottom of the pit is reached.

Hydrology

Old swallow hole of the stream that, at different points, went on enlarging three individual cavities that later joined by coalescence and finally the entrance mouth opened. There is no kind of reconstructive or clastic process.

History

The oldest reference we know is that of an exploration by members of the GES – CMB in the month of March 1954.

In 1973 members of the SIS of the CE Terrassa visit and survey the cavity, publishing it but as Avenc del Sot de la Bóta, a cavity near this one.

The error could have been due to the fact that in those times there was metal signage with the names of the two pits wrongly swapped.
