Characteristics

Location

From the house of la Mata, near the coll d'Estenalles, take the path in a SW direction to the coll de Garganta. From here, in a N direction, a path sets out that soon brings us to the Font Freda and continues following the whole left slope of the torrent of the same name. One reaches a fork and must follow the left one (the right one goes towards the bottom of the torrent); before crossing the torrent de la Castanyera we will find the Avenc del Tortosí and following the path, once past the aforementioned torrent, there is a flat area from which a small path sets out to the left that in a few metres brings us to the Avenc de la Brega. One of the old pit signposting signs is still preserved, indicating the possible presence of gases.

Description

Morphology

A circular entrance just over one metre in diameter communicates with a single shaft, narrow in the first metres, 52 metres deep. Along its course it presents a maximum width of about 2 metres and the megaclase that generates the cavity in a few points goes a little beyond 5 metres in length. The base of the shaft is the classic debris cone of small-sized clastic materials.

History

We do not know who or when the first exploration was made. The oldest news we have is the visit by members of the GES-CMB in June 1954 and they surveyed it.

In 1970 members of the Espeleo Club de Sabadell made a new survey calculating 3 metres more depth (55 m.) than the one made by the GES (52 m.)
