Avenc de Coll de Pal

Avenc de Coll de Pal

Avenc de 26 metres de desnivell al municipi de Bagà.

Bagà • Berguedà88m26m

A 26-metre-deep pit in the municipality of Bagà, at the Coll de Pal, located and cleared by GEFOMA in the late 70s and resurveyed in 2011 by GE Badalona and CE de Castellar del Vallès.

Characteristics

Location

From the Coll de Pal, we will follow the GR-150-1 towards the Niu d'Àliga refuge located at the Tosa, passing in front of the cracks of the Serrat Gran, without speleological interest and quite masked by the mining activity carried out in the past century. Before reaching the Cap del Serrat Gran (2402m) via the col of the 2362 mark, on the left of the path and behind some rocks we will find the cavity.

Description

Morphology

A pit of 26 metres of depth in the municipality of Bagà. Due to the narrowness of the entrance mouth, although the rigging is done at this point, access must be made through a mouth that is to the left of the previous one; this forms a short gallery that turns 180º by means of a squeeze that will place us at the head of a 15-metre shaft, the point where we will meet again the rope that we have rigged at the narrow mouth. At the base of the shaft we find a gallery that to the south ends after a few metres in the middle of a chaos of blocks; continuing north we find a series of steps that will place us at the bottom of the cavity.

Other details

At the base of the entrance shaft there is usually snow almost all year round.

History

Cavity located and cleared by members of GEFOMA in the late 70s of the past century; a total of 6 cavities are located, which are named with the initials CP (Coll de Pal), from no. 1 to no. 6. These are not fully explored since it was necessary to clear them.

In 1990 the same cavers, but now as members of the SIE del CEA, explore two of the cavities again, survey the avenc de Coll de Pal (CP-1), and publish the work in the bulletin of the Federació Catalana d'Espeleologia (Fulls Periòdics d'Informació General).

In 2009, when Jordi de Valles publishes volume 3 of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya, when he refers to this cavity he erroneously states that the first exploration was carried out by the SIEP.

In July 2011 members of GE Badalona and of the CE de Castellar del Vallès explore the cavity again and make a new survey, even though there is a large graffiti at the mouth that 35 years later (2025) still preserves remains of the name of the cavity. These, making use of an alphanumeric system to mark the new cavities of the area, assign it the initials SG-7, a practice that we believe is erroneous to apply to known cavities, previously catalogued and with their own name, something that has already been done in other cases and that complicates the inventories of cavities.
