Orobe 5

Cavity located in the vicinity of de la Peña de Orobe de Alsasua (Navarra). After 4 km from Alsasua, an abandoned quarry is seen on the left. To reach it, it is necessary to cross the Altzania river over a bridge and take a local road that leads to Olazagutia. The railway passes very close to the quarry. Another possible access route is by taking this local road from Olazagutia. After barely 200 metres south of the quarry and taking the track towards Olazagutía, on the right there is a path towards the W that leads to the summit of the mountain. It is rather a logging track, which climbs a very steep slope in one go. Once almost 120 metres of elevation gain have been overcome at the contact between the sandstones we have climbed and the Cretaceous limestone bar, a trail starts towards the Norte that more or less follows the contour line and passes by the Orobe1 and 4 caves. From this point the gully that ends at this last pit must be ascended, passing by an aska, until reaching an elevation of 760 metres where an apparent flat area forming a blind valley drains into the mouth of this ancient sinkhole.
