Caratteristiche

Località

From the facilities of the recreation area of the Leurza reservoirs, head towards the dam of the second reservoir along a track in a southwesterly direction, following the left-hand one after the fork. Once past the dam, take the track on the right that skirts the upper reservoir, crossing the river of the pacedero Erlengarria 13, until reaching a new ascending track on the left. Following this, one arrives at a change of direction to the right, which leads to marker 37. Once at the marker, skirt uphill alongside the wire fence, to turn left with it for some 20 metres. From this point take an ascending direction through the mountain, finding the caves of Mojón in a limestone wall, some 70 metres above after passing under the trunk of a fallen beech. The entrance is three metres below that of Mojón 37 E, to its right.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance of the cavity is low, giving onto a steep ramp with allogenic and clastic deposits. Along the ramp, a few metres into the descent, one reaches a ledge with a detrital floor. The main gallery is formed by a phreatic-type section, whose diameter exceeds 4.5 metres. After a further 90° turn to the right one comes to a vertical step of 3.6 metres, facing a new gallery that crosses perpendicularly and shows two different types of morphology. In the lower part of the gallery the dominant morphology is clastic, showing large blocks distributed randomly, with a great chaos at the back that blocks the gallery. The section of this is clearly phreatic. The blocks are of decimetric size with moderately sharp edges, their faces being more or less dirty with decalcification clay. It would be interesting to carry out a major clearance in the block chaos at 24.7 metres depth, due to the large size of the gallery section, being able to reach, with almost full certainty, much deeper levels.

Concrezioni

To the left of the new gallery a large number of reconstructive processes appear, finding it full of flowstone and gours, the latter of small size. In this zone there is a very narrow shaft between flowstone, with an estimated depth of 5 metres. In the phreatic section of the lower zone a lithogenic deposit is shown on the floor in the manner of calcareous flowstone, also finding the whole zone covered by a thin layer of Moon milk.

Idrologia

On the left part there is a first water input, whose flow is very scant. From the ledge with a detrital floor, turning 90° to the left, a new input can be observed, very small, created by a paragenetic morphology in the main gallery. The very narrow shaft between flowstone acts as a sink for four small galleries that contribute small flows. A fifth crawlway shows a clogging of rounded pebbles of the Triaxal type, which are semi-cemented by little-hydrated sandy clay.

Progressione

Along the ramp, a few metres into the descent, one reaches a ledge with a detrital floor from which, turning 90° to the left, a new input can be observed. After making a further 90° turn to the right, one comes to a vertical step of 3.6 metres, facing a new gallery that crosses perpendicularly.
