Caratteristiche

Località

From the facilities of the recreation area of the Leurza reservoirs, head toward the dam of the second reservoir along a track in a southwesterly direction, following the left-hand side after the fork. Once past the dam, take the track on the right that skirts the upper reservoir, crossing the river of the Erlengarria spring 13, until reaching a new ascending track on the left. Following this, you come to a change of direction to the right that leads to marker 37. Once at the marker, skirt uphill alongside the wire fence to turn left with it for about 20 metres. From this point, head uphill through the mountain, finding the caves of the Mojón in a limestone wall, about 70 metres above after passing the trunk of a fallen beech. The entrance is three metres above that of Mojón 37 0, to its left.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cavity is located near the contact with the sandy marls of the Lower Cretaceous, its matrix being produced in reef limestones, also of the same period. Phreatic and paragenetic galleries predominate, with traces of having received intense circulation. It has formed thanks to a large fracture with a direction of 152°/332°, together with a parallel joint interconnected with the main one, and a third fracture that meets the main one perpendicularly forming the Neptuno chamber. Clastic deposits are abundant in the first 25 metres of gallery, the only detrital deposit being found at the end of the main gallery.

Concrezioni

The cavity shows a very intense cavitational formation, with a later, more chemical evolution and formation of lithogenic deposits only in some very specific points of the cavity.

Altri dettagli

It has been a pity that this cavity closed in such an unexpected way, not only because of the enormous dimensions and heights of its galleries, but also because of the relative proximity of the impermeable materials of the Cretaceous.
