Descrizione

Morfologia

Vertical cavity formed in a joint by dissolution of the limestone in water. At the mouth of the pit we find marl just as in the surrounding terrain, forming a thin layer (1 m), with limestone appearing further down. The pit is a totally vertical cavity 7.4 metres deep. The floor is a plug of sand and when stones are thrown down it sounds hollow, but a dig does not seem feasible. The walls have moss due to the shallow depth of the pit.

Progressione

It is a well-marked path that begins with a steep slope and numerous bends until it gains considerable height above the bottom of the ravine. Further on the path crosses a steep scree slope, so a handline has been installed as a railing. From this point it loses gradient but continues climbing continuously. Little by little the terrain closes in until it enters a pine forest, although the path remains very marked. After walking for a while inside the forest, it opens out into a small treeless clearing where there is a fork in the paths. We take the path that climbs out of the clearing on the left. The path ascends to climb above a waterfall that feeds into a ravine on our right. The path continues parallel to a stream bed. When it finally crosses the stream, it forks and we take the right-hand one. We follow this path, which runs through an area of scattered trees. At the end of the trees a clearing appears with a borda in the centre. The pit is located at the edge between the trees and the clearing, near where the path leaves us, and is easy to see from it.
