Small cave with a passage length of 19 metres in the municipality of Artesa de Segre, with a vertical extent of + 9 metres.

Caratteristiche

Località

Located in the village of Montmagastre, which belongs to the municipality of Artesa de Segre. Once the asphalt of the road ends, continue along the track on the left, which winds around the hill of Montmagastre to the north. At 750 metres, some cultivated fields are found on the left; cross them and climb up along a faint path lost in the middle of the forest, which, after ascending past old cultivation terraces now abandoned and old civil war trenches, leads to the cave.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A fissure closed by the ceiling. The floor climbs a steep slope in the middle of which there are some large blocks wedged between the walls. The gallery turns to the right due to the intersection of a joint; to the left it becomes impenetrable. Some blocks are climbed and the cave practically ends, while on the left there is a tiny gallery that soon comes to an end. The cavity has a vertical extent of + 9 metres and a passage length of 19 metres.

Storia

This cavity has long been known and visited by the people of Montmagastre. The first speleological reference to its existence is given by Joan Pallarès when he mentions it in an article about the Penya del Donzell in Montmagastre published in the magazine GOURS no. 8.
