Caratteristiche

Località

From the hamlet of Castellar de Tost (Ribera d'Urgellet), we take the old path of the coll d'Arnat, a track in not very good condition that passes beside the cemetery. Following the track further on we find a junction; in an off-road vehicle one can continue with difficulty along the track that climbs to the left, beside a dung heap (data from 2006). After a short while we find the bassa de Porcelcuit, which is used as a drinking water reservoir for Castellar de Tost.

The track continues climbing to the left of the Torrent de les Rotes and, on a large bend to the left, we find, above the track and on the right, the large mouth of the Espluga dels Lladres.

Descrizione

Morfologia

From the rock shelter situated at the western end of the main cave, known as Espluga dels Lladres, or cova de Fontaubac, two more cavities open. No. 3, situated in the rock shelter, is the one with the longest passage. It has a portal 6.50 metres wide by 2.30 metres high. An ascending gallery 16 metres long with average dimensions of 4.60 metres wide by 1.60 metres high leads us to a rise of +2 metres, where two small galleries connect with the exterior, only the more easterly one being passable. The total passage is 35.50 metres.

Idrologia

The bassa de Porcelcuit is supplied by an underground spring (piped), although unfortunately those who explored the Espluga dels Lladres were unable to locate it.

Storia

This cavity, which appeared marked only on some maps as Espluga dels Lladres or cova Fontaubac and of which there was no reference, was located by Josep Cuenca and Francesc Xavier Samarra in December 2005. It was not until 14 May 2006 that it was fully explored by members of the GE Badalona.
