Descrizione

Morfologia

Small cavity about 9 metres deep, 6 wide and 4.5 high. These dimensions and the horseshoe-arch plan have been obtained artificially by chipping away the rock of the walls.

On one side there is a door and on the part facing the stream a stretch of wall.

Altri dettagli

The most remarkable feature of the cavity is the presence of two chiselled millstones in the floor of the cave.

The cave (according to the geological map) is excavated in a package of Eocene sandstones and marls.

At present the cavity is used as a storeroom.

Storia

Known since time immemorial. Used by man since remote times for different purposes. According to J. de la Vega, the presence of the two millstones (of different sizes) he does not believe were used to grind either oil or cereals and that, being hidden inside a cave, it could be related to the grinding of gunpowder, possibly during the Carlist wars, as also happened at the neighbouring farmhouse of les Cases.
