Font-rubí • Alt Penedès 6m

Small cave of archaeological interest in Font-rubí, with a single small chamber and destroyed speleothems.

Caratteristiche

Località

Going along the BP-2121 road that runs from Vilafranca to Font-rubí, when we reach Km 20 we find the hamlet of les Llambardes; we will turn off onto a track that leaves on our right and will take us to the coll de la Barraca; here we will take a track on the left, descending, that passes beside a monumental pine tree, called de la Planxa. We will continue descending along the track until we reach the font de Llinars, where we will leave the car, to continue on foot for about 500 m along the same path until we find on our right a narrow path that, climbing steeply, will lead us to a small cliff where we will find the cave, half hidden by the vegetation.

Storia

The first news we have of this cave is given by Pere Giró, who located it in May 1959 and carried out the first archaeological excavations. Antoni Poyo (AEC Vilafranca) made the only sketch we know of.

Later it is called Cova de la Font de Llinars. J. Virella, in his inventory of Penedès cavities (1979), cites it with both names, but also adds a Cova d'en Pere Giró, the result of information provided by the AEC de Vilafranca and which apparently is the same cave. If to this we add that it also seems to be the one georeferenced in the ICGC as Cova del Miret (nobody knows its origin), we will have four names for the same cavity.

As we have already recorded in the file for the Cova de la Guineu, located in the upper part of the Plana de la Pineda, in different documents it is confused with this one, discovered twenty years earlier.
