Caratteristiche

Località

From Sant Martí Sarroca we will head towards Torrelles de Foix. We will leave aside the turnoff towards la Llacuna and a little less than 1 km later, at the end of a straight stretch, we will continue along a path that will take us to can Vallès. The cave is located behind the farmhouse, on the other side of the riera de Pontons and clearly visible.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A shelter 30 metres wide and of little height, generally around 1.5 metres, with the ceiling of conglomerate and the rest of limestone. For its description we can divide it into two parts. The East sector, the closest to the riera, is the one that goes deepest, 15 metres, on a gentle upward slope and with a low ceiling. The West sector is separated by a block and is closed by a stone wall 9 metres long, rendered on the inside and with 3 small windows. The interior space has a depth of 10 metres and the ceiling is noticeably higher than the other sector.

Concrezioni

It has some small stalactites.

Idrologia

During the flooding of the riera, the East sector is partially flooded.

Storia

Known since ancient times. As with many of the cavities in this comarca, it has been used by man to keep livestock (the East sector) and as a dwelling (West sector).

The first data we know of are those provided by members of the SIRE – UEC Sants who visited them in January 1980. In March 2017 it is visited by members of the Espeleo Club de Gràcia who update the data of the cavity.
