A short cave in Esparreguera, but of great value as a prehistoric site, occupied between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age.

Caratteristiche

Località

It is located at the foot of a crag above the C-55, about 415 metres E (E9N) of Can Paloma and about 250 metres S of the Puda de Montserrat. On this crag there is a climbing area known as “Les puces”.

At Km. 7.35 of the C-55 road from Abrera to Manresa, one must take a turn-off, the B-113. After 4.1 km., a track, often closed, follows a small vineyard. At a point where the track makes a 90º turn to the right, the path that will take us to the foot of the crag leaves in a N direction.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Irregular and wide gallery 9 metres long formed by the disintegration of the very limestone travertines of Can Paloma and later disintegrations.

Progressione

Follow the crag to the right (W) going up and down about seventy metres until reaching the mouth of the cova de Can Paloma no. 2. From here one must descend S a 3-metre step (a rope would be advisable).

Storia

In 1935 the prehistoric site of the cova de Can Paloma was discovered. The excavation carried out by Rafael Subirana i Ollé, from Esparreguera, with the advice of professor Josep de C. Serra Ràfols, was cut short by the Civil War. Later, Antoni Gaston and Eleuteri Navarro, also from Esparreguera, continued the research work.

Thanks to the discoveries we know that the cave was occupied by man between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age.

In 1985 (the year of the millennium of Esparreguera) and invited by the owners of Can Paloma, members of the ERE of the CEC surveyed the cave and other nearby cavities.
