Descrizione
Morfologia
The entrance, raised one and a half metres above the ground, has a horizontally elongated shape, about 40 centimetres high and 1.5 metres wide. It continues as a gallery about 8 metres long where at the end there is a shaft about 3 metres deep that before its clearing was blocked by blocks and sediments. The bottom is covered by very fine sand and gives way to a sumping gallery about 3 metres long (End point of 1974).
After a major clearing this passage can be passed and one can enter a short gallery (laminator) that leads to a small chamber and in the upper part of this a very narrow joint about 16 metres long begins and ends in a drop of just over 2 metres. At its bottom a much wider gallery begins but after about 9 metres the ceiling suddenly lowers and shortly afterwards regains its height for about 25 metres more, until it connects with a de-sumped and narrow joint through which one must advance by “ramonage” until finding a small shaft of 4 metres that allows descending to the deepest zone of the joint. The gallery turns to the left and through a short steep passage, 50 centimetres wide, one reaches the point furthest from the entrance: a gallery about 10 metres high by 70 centimetres high that widens considerably in its upper part, where some blocks embedded and covered by mud form a false upper gallery.
If we return to the bottom of the shaft, the passage descends rapidly and after descending two drops of 2 and 1 metre, one reaches the point of maximum depth, where the floor was found occupied by water and where a possible continuation was observed, but it remained unexplored.
Idrologia
The Caus del Guitard is a temporary spring that only flows in times of heavy rain. Beside it and possibly with a direct relationship there exist other phenomena, impenetrable, known as: the Cauets and the Bullidors.
Progressione
All the internal galleries are covered by a large amount of mud and the explorations carried out (1980-1986) have always found a very significant amount of guilla (CO2) and this, added to the narrowness of many passages, makes exploration very dangerous.
Storia
The Caus del Guitard (Guitart until a few years ago) is a phenomenon known since time immemorial. The first written mention (1890) is a work on the petrography of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the second, shortly afterwards (1984) in a work on the flora of the Vallès. Font i Sagué includes it in his Catàlech (1897) in the section on hydrological phenomena and since then it is cited in all scientific works and hiking guides of the Serra de l'Obac.
We have evidence of visits by the GES – CMB since 1951, but despite this, it is not until the period 1970-76 that the GE Badalona carries out a campaign throughout the area of springs of the Obac and they are the ones who, after much clearing work, can empty the small shaft that follows the short entrance gallery. In parallel, and without news of each other, the SIS – CE Terrassa were working in the same area and the same cave. Both published respective works on the springs of the Obac.
Shortly afterwards, the people of the SIS continue clearing the lower passage and a member of the GES Terrassa who accompanies them can force the passage and reach the small chamber, three days later those of the SIS also pass.
At the end of May 1980, the member of the GES (J.A. Pérez) returns, and alone can force the joint and reach the first drop. The next day the whole GES – CMT throws itself into it, they finish cleaning thoroughly the first crawl to allow most members to pass and throughout that year they make different entries until reaching the end known so far. At some point they had to use compressed air cylinders due to the high degree of CO2 present in the entire interior zone of the cave.
In 1981, Xavier Badiella alone was able to penetrate to the middle of the cave, but had to abandon due to lack of oxygen. In 1982 the Caus flowed and four years later, on 12 September 1986, assuming that the ventilation conditions would have improved in such a time, the brothers Xavier and Enric Badiella (SIS) tried again, being able to reach the known end. This exploration did not end in disaster by pure miracle, a dramatic exit from the interior that Xavi Badiella (1986) made into an account published in the Arxiu of the Centre.
We have no news of any further exploration, of course it is not a cave that invites much penetration.
