Caratteristiche

Località

To reach the BZ-1 pit, take the NA-7182 road, which crosses the Urbasa Park from Zudaire towards Olazagutía. At kilometre 30.9 of this road, an asphalt track begins (the Otsoportillo track), which is followed to kilometre 4.1. You come to a junction with an easily identifiable parking area, since another pit with a protective wall can be seen; if you do not have permission, the vehicle must be left parked here. Continue along the gravel track (Etxarriko Sareetako Bidea), which leads towards the hermitages of SANTA MARINA and San Adrián. You must walk 1.6 km until you find a fork to the left that must be taken (Santa Marinako Pista). You go down and up through some zig-zags until you find some bordas on the right-hand side (Majadas de Iturmendi), a few hundred metres before reaching the hermitage of SANTA MARINA. You will have covered 1.4 kilometres more to the bordas, where you can park. You walk about 990 metres in a N-NE direction, without entering the wooded area, and stay beside the cut that overlooks the Sakana valley, where the fallen menhir of Oineta can be seen, UTM ED-50 573.349 - 4.747.400 - 1075. From here the direction changes to 110º towards the east, you enter the beech wood for about 750 metres and come upon a large doline. The pit is located a few metres from the doline and in its S-SE part.

Descrizione

Morfologia

From the base of the debris cone, the approximate dimensions of the chamber can be observed: 22 x 16 x 24 metres. On the opposite side there is a small, very narrow collector 12 metres long.

Concrezioni

The chamber presents numerous flowstone formations.

Idrologia

In the lowest part of the chamber a small pool forms that dries up in low water, leaving a visible mark of the level fluctuation all around its perimeter. The water escapes through a hole that continues descending a few metres, but of very delicate access, since these are walls of clay and fine calcite.

Altri dettagli

At the junction of the debris cone and the flowstone there is a small skeleton in a fetal position whose animal species could not be determined. In this chamber there are bone remains of different species, birds, bats and several unidentified carnivore skulls.
